Eating Heavier Meals Doesn’t Necessarily Make You Feel Fuller

Friday wasn’t a good day in terms of eating meals that were light. For lunch, I had turkey sandwiches with gravy and mashed potatoes. It’s one of my favorite cheap meals.

For dinner, we had homemade meatloaf and rice. For a nighttime snack, my husband cooked up a Tony’s frozen pizza and I couldn’t resist having some. My overall calorie consumption wasn’t too high for my weight (2,164), but I found myself hungry all day! It took everything I had to not eat more than what I did. I almost felt like I was starving.

Even though Friday wasn’t one of my best days with eating, I think it was a good experience. I realized that the food I was eating earlier in the week (the salads & fruits) actually made me feel fuller throughout the day. Eating the heavier meals doesn’t necessarily make me feel fuller and I have to remember that every time I think of what I am going to eat.

i’ve heard that if you mix up your caloric intake everyday, that helps you lose weight. i guess it “tricks” the body. if you just reduce your calories by say, 100 calories a day - apparently your body gets used to it and starts to store food instead of shed calories.

if you mix it up - but average fewer calories a day - then your body sheds pounds faster.

in other words, don’t worry too much about Friday. but being hungry sucks!

I think your hunger problem might have been due to getting too many calories from carbs— bread, rice, potatoes and pizza. Try to eat more fruit, veggies, brown rice and wheat bread. The fiber in these foods help keep you feeling fuller longer. Drinking lots of water helps too. Hope this helps.

I totally agree. I feel fuller when I’m eating large amounts of veggies and soups than when I’m eating small amounts of fatty foods.

Add a tablespoon of Metamucil or similar after breakfast, lunch, and right before bed. Or just split the amount recommended by the instructions into 3 parts. It helps. Also, the reason you feel so hungry is because your body is not used to having quality food. It uses up these healthy foods by quickly absorbing them into the bloodstream for energy and other positive ways. The empty foods you ate before were just a means to fill you up and not provide nutrition. Also, drink water like Kim said. Sometimes hunger is confused with thirst. If you really want to know how your body operates and what you should eat, read “The Abs Diet.” They have a women’s version coming out soon that my wife is going to get, but the book can apply to anyone really. It gives great understanding about how our bodies work. The author is the editor-in-chief at Men’s Health. And no it’s not just another one of those stupid fad diets. It’s a book that dismisses them really. Check your library.
