Frustrated.
I am getting very frustrated. Not with my eating, but frustrated because every weekend I injure myself. The first weekend of hiking left me with a hurt calf. The weekend after was a knee injury.
We didn’t go hiking this past weekend. Saturday was a cold rainy day and Sunday I decided that I wanted to dig up a spot in our yard for a garden so we can save some money on veggies this summer.
We do not have a tiller, so we used a shovel to dig up the grass. Somewhere along the line I pulled something in my lower back. Yesterday, it hurt so bad and today the pain hasn’t let up. I’ve been taking Tylenol at night to help me sleep but even that isn’t doing that much good.
I think my body can’t handle all of this right now. Years of neglect have taken its toll and it does downright frustrates me.
I’m not giving up on this. I just needed to vent.

Ah, yes, I’ve been there. THIS TIME, I decided to take it easy on the exercise. I mean, I walk. That’s it. I haven’t done anything more strenuous than that, because I ALWAYS end up pulling a muscle, or twisting my ankle or my knee, or wrenching my back. But, walking on the suburban streets of my town seems to be gentler and I’m getting good exercise. Maybe reserve the heavier stuff until you’ve lost some nmore weight. I think my injuries were partly because I had more weight on those joints, and I needed to be lighter before I could exercise more vigorously.
Be gentle to your body. And of course, don’t be afraid to vent. Give yourself a break. You work, you take care of your family, and you are now taking care of yourself. The weight is not going to be gone overnight. We’re in a marathon, not a sprint. You’re doing great!
Your injuries are a result of inadequate stretching and warm ups. Before doing any type of physical activity, warm up a bit. Do jumping jacks, run in place, or something else for 5 minutes or so. Then, do some light stretches for about 5-10 more minutes. This little effort goes a long way in prevent avoidable injuries - and it sounds like your injuries were completely avoidable. Hang in there though, it’s always a learning process!

I completely relate. I have been trying really hard to lose weight over the past year. After many years of starving myself, I have come to realise it’s not eating very little that works, but eating healthy and exercising. But every time I try to get into a fitness routine I get more injured. Last August I twisted my knee playing indoor soccer. Then in December I broke my foot running for the bus. I had to wear a cast for ten weeks, which in turn caused a deep vein thrombosis. I had to be on blood thinners for three months for that, so no sports. Now I have had angiogram that has caused chronic migraines. It’s like something is purposefully stopping me for a getting exercise.
So go ahead and vent - I know it will do you good. Hope you recover quickly and don’t get too disheartened.
