Getting Back on the Saddle, er…Elliptical Again

I have been on a very long hiatus from this blog - almost 5 months. My weight has remained very constant the past few months and is still hovering right around 220. My current weight on the right says 222.5 and I’ll leave it like that until Sunday when I start back up with weekly weigh-ins.

Weight loss has always been a goal, but I think the bigger goal has always been to live a healthier life. I have been checking my blood pressure every month or so, and it is still well within the normal range. I’m pretty happy about that. I also have a check-up scheduled at the doctors next week. I hope to get “the works” done in terms of blood tests, etc. since I haven’t had anything like that done in a long time. It is long overdue.

As for exercising, I haven’t done much at all lately. Today I hopped back on my elliptical and did a total of 15 minutes on it (3 times at 5 minutes each). It’s time to just get back into it and start up with a routine. Because my energy fades away at around 2:00 PM each day, I am hitting the elliptical in the morning before work. If I don’t…I won’t do it.

So there’s an update. It’s time to kick things into gear!

Try hitting the elliptical for a few minutes around that 2pm energy slump. I’m quite certain you’ll find yourself re-energized. I work in an office, and usually have the ‘after lunch coma’ 1 1/2 - 2 hrs after eating lunch, you know, when the sugar levels taper off. Most people reach for the coffee, or some other sweet…I’ll admit, I’ve reached for the coffee myself, but a glass of water, apple, or 10 minute walk outside usually do the trick, and they’re all healthier than the coffee.

Hey Tricia,
I was reading “Blogging Away Debt” and I want to point out a comment you made that I think is erronous: you said that when getting rid of debt, you saw that total go down ‘immediately,’ verses getting rid of fat. I think you should look back over your two years of debt blogging and reconsider that comment. There are times with both debt and weight that we sit around for long periods of time, and just holding steady is a huge accomplishment. You’ve lost 25 lbs. That’s a lot of weight. It may not feel like a lot, but it is. In “Blogging Away Debt,” in two years you’ve paid off about 2/3 of your debt, or about 1/3 a year. I wouldn’t be surprised, given the fact that you’re continually paying less interest, that in this last year your debt went down faster than it did the first year. Weight will be similar. You probably want to lose about 75-100 lbs, right? Well, in one year you’re about 1/3 of the way there, which seems to me matches exactly the pace you managed with your debt. It is NOT EASY, especially now that we’re over 25, to get rid of our weight. It took years of sitting around to wear our metabolism out, and it will take a while (years!) to get it back in the shape it was when we were 19. But just remember, like debt, you don’t have to get rid of all you’re weight to start to feel like a rock star. Give it time–one day you’ll wake up and realize what huge strides you’ve made.

Starving Artist - thanks for the insight. I have lost a bit of weight when I think about it. I am pretty harsh on myself, and when it comes to my weight I think about where I could have been right now if I kept with it. I thought about it more, and I think a lot of it has to do with confidence. I’m confident about reducing debt, but not so much with reducing my weight.

Good to have you back. I almost deleted my link to you and left this blog for dead ;-).
