Going on a Hiatus

For some reason, this blog isn’t motivating me as much as I thought it would. It’s not due to a lack of support, because many of you have been awesome leaving encouraging comments. I think it’s because I feel I should be exercising instead of sitting at the computer.

If I was a fast writer, things would be different. But I’m not - at least not with discussing my weight. It has always amazed me that it is more difficult for me to discuss my weight than it is my debt. My weight you can see if you meet me on the street. My debt you wouldn’t have any clue about unless I told you. Why I am so guarded about my weight is beyond me.

So I’ve decided to go on a hiatus for a little bit with this blog. I’m not sure how long it will be, and I may still post weekly updates. It is very unlikely I will be posting anything else unless the mood really strikes. I’m going to try to get more exercise in and start losing some more weight. I have been in a lull lately, so that probably isn’t helping my motivation.

If you follow my other blog, I probably won’t update my weight over there. But I will pop into here every now and then with updates. If you’d like to keep track without having to stop by, you can subscribe to my feed in a feed reader or via email.

I’d like to say thank you to everyone for your encouraging comments! I haven’t given up hope :-)

It’s interesting, this weight loss stuff. I’m in the middle of my third journey to losing 50+ lbs. I don’t yo-yo this much naturally, the second and third times have been post-pregnancy. But I get really frustrated. I was discussing my frustration with my doctor recently, and he was trying so hard to be encouraging. I tend not to listen when I’m determined to be in a bad mood about something. He looked at me and said, “1. At least you’re in a downward trend, and 2. 20 lbs will help your health immensely.” I’ve lost about that much, and it is amazing how much better I feel. That little talk was enough to get me exercising more frequently! It’s often the smallest and strangest things that motivate us.

And I can understand being guarded about your weight. It’s something that people can see, sure, but they can’t see you on the internet. Talking about your appearance and health breaks that wall of anonymity that the web provides. It’s a difficult thing to do, and something I don’t enjoy either.

At any rate, keep up the good work!

You do what’s best for you. Post when you can.
Good luck to you, and take care!

Good luck!

Hi Tricia,

I wish you all the best with your goals! For me, I need the accountability of not only support forums, but also the motivation I get from writing on my blog. In fact I just wrote myself through a slump in my weight loss motivation by doing a series on Loving Yourself Thin. Besides writing them, I also did the exercises, and they’ve helped me immensely.

Keep on keepin’ on with your weight and health goals, you deserve it! :)

Good luck.

I totally get it, Tricia - I also have a much easier time discussing finances than I do my weight. Good luck!

As soon as you go on hiatus, I decided to put more time in my health blog. Go figure. Some day perhaps we’ll be active at the same time.

What you are saying does make sense. Your money blog actually helps your finances some. It can more you toward your goal (even if it’s just a small amount). Writing a health blog is actually time taken away from your goal.

I felt the same way about two years ago. Sitting around all day in front of your comp can really take a toll. I’ve tried to win the battle by taking a 10 min break every hour.

I noticed you lost 25 pounds already. Congrats. See, you can do it. I will follow your success, but you have to keep posting. Good Luck!
