My Bathroom Scale is Calling My Name
My first weight in was only a few days ago but that scale is calling my name. I want to go and step on it and even see if maybe…just maybe…I’ve lost a few pounds.
Is this normal?
I told myself that I didn’t want to be obsessed with weight as a measure of how I am doing. But I keep thinking about that scale. Even though I haven’t exercised much the past few days, I have been eating well and have reduced my food intake. Come Sunday when I do my weekly weight-in, I will be a little disappointed if I didn’t lose any weight. But, I guess if I don’t lose weight then I am doing something wrong (eating too few calories, etc.).
Anyways, just some rantings before bed. If I start dreaming of bathroom scales I am really in trouble ![]()

I weigh myself every morning while I’m still in my pajamas (usually shorts and a t-shirt). I try not to weigh myself at any other point at the day.
Yesterday I was disappointed to have gained back a pound. But I felt my body changing due to exercise, so I reminded myself of that. Today, I was 3 pounds lighter than yesterday. I had a major reduction of calories yesterday and I exercised a half hour. I only meant to exercise 15 minutes, but my daughter wanted to exercise with me and we got carried away.
But when I got on that scale this morning, I was so excited. It gave me increased motivation.
I also weigh myself every day — first thing in the morning after I pee. Supposedly, people who weigh in every day have better results at keeping weight off after they lose it.
And if you haven’t lost weight after a week, it’s not because you’re eating too few calories, but too many.
a few years back, I got so into the Atkins plan I would hop on the scale every few hours! I wore out a lifetime battery on my scale in about 6 months. Then, I went the other way and said forget the diet and the scale. I now need to get motivated to do something about my weight that has creeped back on.

I am a big believing in weighing yourself daily. The trick is ignoring the specific number and instead analyzing the trends.
Not only should you weigh yourself every day, but you should write down your weight every morning and graph it in some online program or in a spreadsheet or something.
This will not really apply to you since your goal is to lose a lot of weight, but the biggest thing that I concern myself with when I weigh myself is whether I am getting sick or not. If my weight jumps 3 or 4 pounds over a span of a day or two, I know that something isn’t quite right and being forewarned is forearmed.
Don’t stress yourself out weighing everyday! It’s not worth it. Your weight will fluctuate too much b/c of water, muscle gain etc. Instead measure yourself! That’s the only real way to know and it’s a lot more rewarding. Just make sure you get the measuring tape straight otherwise your measuring will be off. ![]()

Hey there,
I’m a lurker at your other blog, Blogging Away Debt, and I just had to come visit you over here. Congrats on making a weight loss goal. I have found the people I’ve met while blogging about my adventures in trying to lose weight to be very helpful and supportive.
It is normal to get caught up in what the scale says, especially when you are starting a weight loss program. Try to come up with some “non-scale victories” for yourself too. Is there something you haven’t been able to do for a while? some clothes you haven’t been able to fit into? do you want to drink more water? do you wan to have more energy? Think of things that you can achieve that have nothing to do with what the scale says. It can help keep you motivated. Non-scale victories, coupled with the scale kind, have helped me lose 45 lbs. Come visit me sometime if you have a chance … lastpick.blogspot.com.
Take care,
Trixie
