One Excuse for My Current Weight - I Lack the Time

Hmmm…I have a confessions category on Blogging Away Debt, I wonder if I should start one here as well. I should, and the first confession will be the excuse that I’ve used in my mind over and over again as to why I am overweight.

I lack the time to exercise…

With thinking about it, I can tear that excuse apart. You can technically get active by doing chores. Last week, I was out raking the yard and I re-discovered muscles in my arms that I forgot about. I even had a nice blister on my finger showing how hard I worked. Even mundane housework can become more active if you crank up the radio and put a little more spring in your step and bust a move while sweeping or mopping. And that bag of groceries that you are carrying into the house? Do a few bicep curls with the bag while you are taking the bag to its destination.

Don’t get me wrong, setting aside some time for dedicated exercise is a good thing and it’s something I am trying to work into my life. But I am also going to be more active doing things I normally do every day. Every little bit counts because it was more than I was doing before.

I found blogging away fat from blogging away debt. I have a suggestion for you. It sounds like you are doing great with your weight loss. Don’t be surprised if you don’t loose as much week after week it happens. I know that you and your husband are trying to pay off your debt as quickly as possible however I urge you to join Weight Watchers.
Feel free to roll your eyes; I did the first time my friend told me about Weight Watchers. I thought, “Ugh meetings are stupid.” I have found that weight watchers is the only way I have been able to keep my weight off. I lost 40 pounds in 2004 and have kept it off for 3 years. Whenever you meet your “goal weight” after 6 weeks you become a “lifetime” member and get to go to meetings for free. I’ve learned over time that it’s not just about losing weight. It’s about changing your lifestyle. A monthly pass from Weight Watchers is around 40.00 and I think it is well spent.

A great alternative to Weight Watchers is Overeaters Anonymous (www.oa.org), which is free.

Instead of shooting for the recommended 30 minutes a day how about shooting for 15 minutes a day? Not as much as the recommended amount, but better than nothing! You also might want to take a look at http://www.flylady.net and the Body Clutter section. Her approach to clutter is to builld routines and habits one step at a time. So rather than overwhelm yourself by trying to do it all, she suggests working on one habit at a time, e.g., “moving” for 15 minutes a day, etc.
