Weekly Weight Loss Progress - No Change

Another week of my weight staying steady at 218 pounds. It serves me right, though. I didn’t have much motivation at all last week. It seems as though whenever my schedule is disturbed by long hours at work…all heck breaks loose. I was doing so well there too!

Ugh.

Things are going to slow down here shortly, and I need to get back into a routine again. For a while there, I was hitting the elliptical in the morning and then after work I was doing some exercises on my exercise ball. I felt great.

Then overtime at work hit and I couldn’t keep it together. Hours sitting at the desk left me with pain in my knees so leg exercises were out of the question. I also didn’t have much energy left.

I think that is the biggest thing holding me back. It’s the excuse of not having enough time and having pain. I used to work through the pain when I was younger. I just give up now, and that has to change.

While it’s good that my weight is not increasing, I’d like to come on here and say that I lost some weight! LOL!

I heard about a recent study (don’t have a link handy, I believe it was either Kaiser funded or a government agency) that said for every hour of exercise performed, on average, a person extends their lifespan by TWO hours.

So not only do you “get that hour back” but you get another one — for free! So when I try and use that “I don’t have time” excuse for not exercising, I motivate myself by realizing I am actually be GAINING time by exercising.

Just thought I’d pass it along, you never know what might help motivate someone else. :)

You may already be doing this, but I find that getting up from the desk to stretch for a few minutes every hour helps me feel much better throughout the day and have little to no pain afterwards. If you don’t have a place in your office where you’d feel comfortable doing a couple of leg stretches, try going to the break room or restroom periodically. Getting away from a desk is also a great way to destress.

I think that the biggest thing holding me (and most others) back from exercise is EXCUSES. None of them are really valid. I know this, yet I still rely on them. I imagine that you do, too. We ALL have time to work out. (I try not to say out loud “I don’t have the time” even though I still use it mentally as an excuse.) People who run our country, run companies and have 8 children find time to work out. So, I don’t have a valid excuse. I can call carve out 20 minutes to exercise. I’m sure we all waste more than 20 minutes a day on TV, procrastinating, and other dispensable tasks. I’ve also used pain as an excuse not to work out, but I also find that it’s just an excuse. There’s always some form of exercise that one can do around the pain, whether that means walking, situps, just working out arms if the legs are having pain, etc.
Good luck!!
